Can Two Autistic People Have a Normal Child?

Yes, two autistic people can absolutely have a neurotypical or “normal” child. Autism is a neurodevelopmental condition, not a guaranteed inherited trait. While genetics can play a role, it doesn’t mean every child of autistic parents will also be autistic.

Studies show that autism can run in families, but it’s influenced by a mix of genetic and environmental factors. Even when both parents are on the spectrum, it’s entirely possible for their child to be neurotypical. And if the child is autistic, early diagnosis and support, like ABA therapy, can lead to meaningful progress.

It’s important to remember: having autism doesn’t limit someone’s ability to love, parent, or raise a thriving child. Whether a child is autistic or not, what matters most is access to support, understanding, and care.

At All Star ABA, we’re here to help families navigate autism with compassion and expert guidance.
