What Is the Difference Between ABA and BCBA?
The terms ABA and BCBA are closely related but refer to different things in the field of autism therapy. ABA stands for Applied Behavior Analysis, which is a science-based therapy focused on improving social, communication, and learning skills through positive reinforcement. It’s the type of therapy used to support individuals with autism and other developmental challenges.
A BCBA, or Board Certified Behavior Analyst, is the professional who designs and oversees ABA therapy programs. BCBAs assess each child’s needs, create personalized treatment plans, and train Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) who work directly with the child during sessions.
In short, ABA is the therapy, while the BCBA is the expert who ensures it’s done effectively and ethically. Together, they help children develop skills that promote independence and meaningful progress.
At All Star ABA, our certified BCBAs lead compassionate, evidence-based ABA therapy in Maryland, helping every child shine in their own way.
