What Are the Red Flags in ABA Therapy?

Not all ABA therapy programs are the same, and recognizing red flags can help ensure your child receives ethical, effective care. One major warning sign is when a provider uses punishment-based methods instead of positive reinforcement. ABA should always focus on encouragement, not control.

Another red flag is when therapy feels rigid or one-size-fits-all. Every child is unique, so treatment should be personalized, flexible, and updated regularly. You should also be concerned if the provider excludes parents from the process family involvement is essential for lasting progress.

Poor communication, lack of measurable goals, or high staff turnover may also signal a low-quality program. Ethical ABA therapy empowers children, respects their individuality, and focuses on building independence not compliance.

At All Star ABA, our certified BCBAs provide compassionate, family-centered  ABA therapyin Maryland, using evidence-based strategies that celebrate every child’s strengths.
