What a BCBA Actually Does Day to Day?

A Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) plays a central role in ABA therapy, guiding both the therapy team and the family to ensure each child’s program is effective. Their day-to-day responsibilities go far beyond just supervising sessions.

1. Assessing and Planning

BCBAs start by assessing a child’s skills and challenges. They use this information to design an individualized treatment plan tailored to the child’s communication, behavior, and daily living goals.

2. Training and Supervising RBTs

Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) carry out most of the direct therapy. The BCBA trains, supports, and observes them to make sure therapy is being delivered correctly and compassionately.

3. Collecting and Analyzing Data

Every session involves data collection. BCBAs review this information regularly to track progress, adjust goals, and ensure strategies are effective.

4. Collaborating With Families

BCBAs meet with parents and caregivers, teaching them how to reinforce skills at home and helping them feel supported throughout the process.

5. Adjusting Strategies

As children grow, their needs change. BCBAs continuously update treatment plans so therapy always aligns with the child’s current goals.
